Four machines that make recording, listening, coding, and synthesis tactile enough to stay present.
Software tends to conceal process behind a changing sheet of glass. These objects move in the other direction: reels rotate, keys report state, structures remain visible, and the whole instrument stays in view.
The point is not nostalgia for switches and dials. Physical controls preserve place and attention. They make it easier to return to a recording, accept a change, shape a sound, or adjust what you hear without first finding the right layer of interface.
